Our traditional family run Victorian country pub, has sat proudly on the hill in Layer road since the 1850's, directly opposite the Folly. Surrounded by woodland and just

3.5 miles from the historic City of Colchester.

We have a large carpark, and a Large enclosed secluded garden and patio area, with a Gazebo, plenty of room for children and dogs. Ideal for those lazy hazy days.

 The front entrance  leads to the Bar area, where you will be warmly greeted by our  friendly front of house team. 

Dogs are welcome in the bar, and the dinning room adjacent  to it.

Children are not allowed in the bar and area adjacent, but are allowed in the adjacent dinning rooms.

Our Chefs take pride in their food .  Fresh fish is always on the menu, supplied by our Mersea fisherman and our local suppliers. Meats and Sausages are supplied by F J Martin Colchester and Proctors. Fresh fruit and Vegetables  are supplied by Bonners Barn Peldon.

We are proud to support local businesses whenever we can.
